Andrew Saunderson

Andrew Saunderson is a Registered Social Worker who has worked in both acute care and community settings in the areas of oncology, cardiology, HIV/AIDS and addictions. Throughout his career he has consistently engaged in the implementation of Advance Care Planning, both in his own practice as well as his colleagues’. Andrew finds joy in both learning and teaching, and has both attended and facilitated various Advance Care Planning and Serious Illness Conversation educational events.

 

Cari Borenko Hoffmann

Since 2006, I have been the regional lead of the Advance Care Planning (ACP) program at Fraser Health Authority in British Columbia. In this role, I have championed the development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of ACP policies, systemic processes, educational resources and promotional materials. My unwavering vision has provided the opportunity to support and influence the implementation of other ACP programs. I have had the privilege to contribute to the ACP movements in New Zealand, Singapore and Japan. As a recognized leader, I was seconded as the Provincial Clinical Lead for ACP to support the development of provincial ACP resources for clinicians, patients and their families. My appointment at UBC Department of Medicine as a Clinical Instructor illustrates my exemplary teaching skills. Through the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association (CHPCA), I am proud to be the founder and chair of the Canadian National ACP Community of Practice of Educators and am an appointed member of the National ACP Task Group. I have presented at several international and national conferences including ones sponsored by the International Society of ACP and End of Life and the CHPCA. I am the author of a chapter entitled Passion, Persistence and Pennies and co-author of another chapter about Canadian ACP. Laura Gaspard

Laura completed her Bachelors of Social Work with a specialization in Ageing from UBC Okanagan in 2011. Her ongoing focus was supporting individuals and families impacted by Dementia, which soon branched into looking at quality of life and quality of death for those with cognitive impairment. Laura was introduced to Advance Care Planning in 2013; in 2015 she completed her Masters in Social Work focusing on Indigenous wellness in health care, and using Advance Care Planning to support quality of life of individuals in Long Term Care. Laura has worked in a variety of Long Term Care homes (general public and specialized), rehabilitation/convalescent care, acute care and community care. She joined the Advance Care Planning team in 2020. When not at work, Laura enjoys running, painting and spending time with family.

 

Randy Goossen

Randy has worked in Emergency, Home Health, at the Specialized Seniors Clinic and now with the FH East Advance Care Planning Team. Randy is committed to educating the public and health care providers to ensure individuals are able to receive care that is consistent with their wishes, values and goals of care.
