Pamela Jackson is a registered Social Worker with a Master Degree in Social Work.  She is a therapist, trainer, and consultant in private practise in Winnipeg, with over forty years of experience working in the trauma field. Pam has provided training and consultation to police and RCMP, military and prison personnel, hospitals, Child and Family Service agencies and numerous social service agencies throughout Manitoba. These consultations and trainings are primarily focused on working with people who have experienced trauma, Vicarious Trauma, and Trauma Informed Care. Pam also maintains a private practise, providing therapy for individuals who have experienced trauma and complex trauma.

Vicarious Trauma is a very real and very normal reaction to working with people who have experienced trauma. Vicarious trauma is defined as a process through which an individual’s inner experience is negatively transformed through empathic engagement with trauma material. This presentation will discuss some of the ways that we may be affected by our work, and some very real and practical strategies that we can implement to decrease this effect.
