As National Social Work Month ends, we reflect on this year’s theme: “Social Work is Everywhere.”
Social workers are present in every part of society, advocating for dignity, equity, and justice. Throughout March, CASW was honoured to share stories of resilience and dedication, particularly from those working in under-resourced and overburdened systems. We are deeply grateful to all who contributed.
Yet, we cannot ignore the challenges ahead. Human rights are under threat, and access to essential services—healthcare, housing, education, and substance use and mental health support—is stretched thin. Social work has never been more critical.
We are in a time of immense uncertainty, both globally and locally. Human rights, especially those of Indigenous peoples, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, immigrants and refugees, racialized people, individuals living with disabilities, and those experiencing poverty, are being challenged and, in some cases, systematically dismantled.
In these times, social work must be bold and unapologetically political. Our profession does not exist in isolation—it is shaped by social, economic, and political realities. Beyond individual support, CASW must engage in national advocacy, education, and collective action.
To all social workers across the country, we say thank you. Thank you for doing the hard, often unseen work of care, advocacy, and transformation. CASW is proud to stand beside you as we continue to advance equity, justice, and systems that work for everyone.
Though this month concludes, our work continues. Let’s carry this momentum forward into every season, every action, and especially this federal election.
