Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) President Morel Caissie today responded to the news of the passing of the Leader of the Official Opposition, Jack Layton.

“I as well as social workers from across Canada are today mourning the loss of a great Canadian leader in Jack Layton. Jack demonstrated courage in his convictions, fighting to alleviate poverty for equity and social justice. He stood for the best of what can be dreamed of our great country.”

"Regardless of political affiliation, Jack will be remembered for putting Canadians first. Our hearts and prayers extend to Olivia Chow, the entire Layton family, and the New Democrat Caucus at this difficult time.”
