Penny Corkum, PHD, Reg. Psychologist

Professor, Department of Psychology & Neuroscience, Dalhousie University

Dr. Corkum conducts clinical research in the areas of child psychopathology (particularly ADHD) and pediatric sleep. She has a particular interest in eHealth, which is using the internet to deliver interventions. One of her research areas is aimed at the intervention of pediatric sleep problems, with the primary goal to reduce the negative impact of sleep problems on the development of the child (e.g., attention, learning, behaviour, social-emotional) and the functioning of the family.

 

Christopher Earle, MD FRCPC (Psychiatry)

Clinical Fellow, Sleep Disorders Medicine, University of Western Ontario

Dr. Christopher Earle is a psychiatrist and sleep physician. Originally from Newfoundland, he now resides in London, ON, where he is a clinic Psychiatrist at Western University. He is currently completing a clinical fellowship in Sleep Disorders Medicine at the London Health Sciences Centre. Dr. Earle’s clinical practice and research focus on behavioural sleep interventions, the bidirectional relationship between sleep and psychiatric disorders, and improving access to evidence-based insomnia interventions.

Description

This webinar will provide attendees with information about the symptom presentation and impact of insomnia across the lifespan. Developmentally appropriate, evidence-based interventions will be shared that can be recommended for individuals across the lifespan to support optimal daily functioning. Practical information will be shared to aid social workers in supporting their clients with insomnia/insomnia symptoms.

  • Appreciate the impact on the person with insomnia and how insomnia can impact the individual across multiple domains of functioning
  • Know what recommendations are evidence-based and appropriate for different stages across the lifespan
