CASW Encourages Social Workers to Champion Mental Illness Awareness Week

The Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) encourages social workers and all Canadians to next week (October 2-8, 2011) champion Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) in our communities and places of work.

Beginning in 1992, MIAW provides faces to mental illness with a week devoted to promoting space for national dialogue and a public education campaign designed to help open the eyes of Canadians to the reality of mental illness.

CASW Announces Winner of ‘Name that Theme’ Contest

The Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) is pleased to announce that the Promotion of the Profession Committee of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Social Workers (NLASW) are the contest winners of the “Name that Theme’ for the 2012 National Social Work Month celebrations in March.

Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) President Morel Caissie today responded to the news of the passing of the Leader of the Official Opposition, Jack Layton.

“I as well as social workers from across Canada are today mourning the loss of a great Canadian leader in Jack Layton. Jack demonstrated courage in his convictions, fighting to alleviate poverty for equity and social justice. He stood for the best of what can be dreamed of our great country.”

Name that Theme CASW Offers $500 Sponsorship

However what is different this year is that CASW is offering up to $500 of sponsorship to the continuing education of a social worker that wins the 2012 ‘Name that Theme ‘contest.
